In times when the world feels busy, uncertain, or overwhelming, returning to simple practices can be incredibly powerful.
Some of the most effective ways to strengthen intuition and reconnect with yourself are also the most natural.
One of my favourite exercises requires nothing more than a quiet place and a tree.
It’s gentle, grounding, and surprisingly powerful.
Find a tree that speaks to you
This practice begins by finding a place where trees grow.
It could be a park, a forest, a botanical garden, or even your own backyard.
Walk slowly and notice how different trees feel to you.
At some point, one of them will seem to draw your attention more than the others.
When that happens, trust it.
Find a comfortable place to lie down beneath the tree, but not directly at the trunk. Instead, position yourself beneath the canopy where the branches stretch outward.
From this position you should be able to see the leaves above you, with the sky or surrounding landscape forming the background.
Practicing open focus
As you lie there, allow your gaze to move softly across the leaves and branches.
If you’re unsure about how to practice open focus, get the simple instructions covered beautifully in these books and programs.
This is not about concentrating intensely.
Instead, let your eyes rest in open focus — a relaxed way of looking where you observe without forcing attention.
Your mind may wander at first.
That’s completely natural.
When it does, simply bring your attention back to the leaves again.
Your body is now grounded by direct contact with the earth, while your awareness becomes calm and receptive.
Tuning into subtle energy
After some time, you may begin to notice something unusual.
Around the leaves or branches, a faint glow or shimmering outline may appear.
This is often described as the aura of the tree — the subtle energy field surrounding all living things.
Whether you perceive it visually, feel it emotionally, or simply sense a deep calmness, the experience helps strengthen your awareness of subtle energy.
At the same time, your body remains fully grounded by the earth beneath you.
You are experiencing two states at once:
grounded physical presence and expanded intuitive awareness.
Again, reading these books will really help with understanding this process.
Where spirituality and the physical world meet
Moments like this reveal something important.
Spiritual connection does not require leaving the physical world.
In fact, nature often becomes the bridge between the two.
When you lie beneath a tree, you are touching the earth, breathing the air, and feeling the physical world around you.
And when these experiences happen together, it becomes clear that the spiritual and physical aspects of life are not separate.
They are simply different expressions of the same interconnected reality. Yet you are also tuning into somoething quieter and deeper. This is a brilliant exercise for helping develop your intuition, especially if you can make it a regular practice.
Learning to embrace both creates a sense of harmony within yourself.
And whatever you create internally eventually reflects and is shown outwardly as the life you experience.
When you can see that for yourself – that’s where true transformation begins.
