Art for art sake

love birds

I don’t know where you’re at but what I do know is that we all share a basic need to get out of our own heads from time to time.

For me, when I really need to switch off the intensity of the world and immerse myself in the lightness of being, I do two things.

One of those is nature, I bathe my senses in the natural world. I take my shoes off, walk through the park barefoot and lay on the grass while connecting with the trees.

Traipse through the sand while the waves wash over my feet as they lap at the shore.

That connection brings me calm, it rebalances my overthinking mind and grounds me, I guess it acts as an anchor allowing me to find my feet again.

This simple act is always followed by a very real sense of gratitude. Gratitude for everything I have and everything I am. Nature will do that to you.

The sounds of the leaves rustling in the light breeze, the myriad of birdsong and bird talk, the little snippets of conversation and laughter from other people engaging.

Sometimes there will be a yoga class or a drumming circle in the park, which reminds me of how fortunate I am to be part of a living, breathing, creative community.

The other thing I do is immerse myself in art. Specifically abstract art.

Drawing and painting remind me of the simple joys of play, they are pure expression from my imagination.

This one is a watercolour, my abstract take on love birds.

What is your go to when you need to get out of your head? I would love to know 🙂
