Herbal astrology Sagittarius

Dandelion flower

Dandelion seems to sit in its own very special position, with its own throne and its own crown, expressed so beautifully by the delicate yet powerful seed head attached to the pappus at the base…although at first glance there is a fragility, the multi-faceted and very magical Dandelion is strong and powerful.

This magnificent member of the Asteraceae family is ruled by Jupiter, with the official botanical name of Taraxacum officinale, it’s a brilliant representation of Sagittarius, also ruled by Jupiter.

Dandelion is a Sagittarius herb with a long history of being used as a delicious medicinal, a divination tool and for calling up spirits. You can almost see the joy in those full, spherical balls, absolutely a signature of Jupiter.

Although once considered, and still so by many, an annoying weed that just doesn’t give up, if you have used the magical Dandelion root as a medicinal potion, the milky stem as wart killer, added the bitter leaves or the beautiful flower heads to a salad, you will know it is definitely not a weed.

With deep strong roots, the plant will grow almost anywhere. It will find its way up and out through the tiniest of concrete cracks, even creating the cracks itself.

Spectacular resilience

Thankfully this spectacular herb is mostly celebrated for its resilience now and not so much treated as if it were a weed without value, as it once was.

The yellow colour of the flower is, according to the doctrine of signatures, indicative of its sphere of action on the liver, the seat of anger and bitterness. Dandelion can help to release the hold of those emotions, freeing the liver to do its work.

Not knowing how to quit is also classic Sagittarius, they push through, often despite seemingly very difficult circumstances. They’ll find a crack and push their way through, if there is no crack to be found they will create one. And that in itself is admirable.

In fact as the archer-centaur or half horse and half man, Sagittarius aims his or her bow and follows that aim through. Sagittarius embodies great power, mentally and physically, again that duality of intention plus physically is shown by the Dandelion.

Sagittarians are often known for their charm, desire for emotional freedom and ability to be entertaining, again Dandelions fit this picture beautifully.
